Fred Dinsmore recently returned home with Gold from the World Wheelchair
and Amputee Games in 9 Ball Pool in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
An employee of Bank of Ireland 365 in Tallaght and a friend of Professional
Snooker Star Jimmy White, Dinsmore turned in a truly resilient performance
to secure his third Global Honour.
Indeed he struggled to emerge from his group and had to beat defending
World Champion Chu Shou Wei from Chinese Taipei in his last match
at this stage to progress. Finding himself 5 - 1 down in this decisive
match, further passage in the competition looked far from likely.
Yet Dinsmore strung together six consecutive racks to win 7- 5 and
secure his place in the Quarter Finals where he beat England's Roy
Kimberley 9 - 7.
Later making it through to the final he was again pitched against
Wei, and dished out an 11 - 7 defeat to his Taiwanese opponent.
His success here served to bridge a five year gap since he last
took a World Nine Ball Title in Belgium.
A former winner of the World Wheelchair Snooker Championships (World
Games), Dinsmore's success has been made all the more remarkable
by the fact that he has no Irish Sports Council funding.
And with the closure of Jason's of Ranelagh, he currently has nowhere
to train or house his Pool Table.
Any person or Club will to house his table can contact him through
his website www.freddinsmore.com.
